Smash Bros. Tournament!

*Play starts at 1 PM (arrive by 12:45 PM)
*All players: bring your own controller (mark it so you can identify it as your own).
*Must have a Festival ticket to enter ($15 advance ticket, or $20 at the door). Your entry is FREE if you bring a set-up (TV & WiiU) that is used in the tournament.  We have 12 spots for set-ups, with 10 spots taken. (2 set-up spots still open.)  The free entry only applies if your set-up is used in the tournament.
*Pre-registration recommended – call Anime Hypercubed 780-672-1763, or stop in to the store to register (5015-46 St.).


Prizing amounts GUARANTEED to be:
1st $350 cash
2nd $250 cash
3rd $150 cash
4th $100 cash
5-6th $75 cash each
7-8th $50 gift certificate each

Tournament rules:

  • Game Settings: 2 Stock, 6 Minutes, Custom Moves Off, Items Off, Equipment Off, Handicap Off, Pause Off, Damage Ratio 1.0x, 2/3 Games
  • Allowed Controllers: Nintendo Gamecube controller, Wii U Pro controller (battery removed method with USB), and Wii Remote variation (player must remove battery upon completion of set or may be disqualified)
  • Mii Fighters On (1-1-1-1 Default Guest Miis)
  • Amiibo’s are banned.
  • Stages: Battlefield [Dream Land 64], Final Destination [Ω Midgar, Ω Suzaku Castle and Ω Wily Castle], Lylat Cruise, Smashville, Town & City
  • First stage is decided by (Rock Paper Scissors) best of 1. Winner may choose to either strike a stage first or select a port first. Stages are struck in a P1-P2-P2-P1 order.
  • Following stages decided by winner striking one stage from all stages and then loser choosing.
  • Winning player is not locked into the same character for the next match, but has to pick before loser selects character.
  • You may not pick the last stage you have previously won on during the set unless mutually agreed to.
  • You may not play on a stage that is not on the available stages list. This will result in a double disqualification.
  • If a game ends with a self-destruct move, the results screen will determine the winner.
  • Sudden Death with tied percentage/stock will result in a 1 stock/3 minutes playoff match.
  • No loading anything on to the tournament consoles.

Cosplay Q&A!


We’re excited to announce that Fantasy’s Soul Cosplay will be hosting a Cosplay Q&A Panel at this year’s festival! Daina is a talented & experienced cosplayer who has won numerous awards for her cosplay creations! Have you wondered what is involved in making your own cosplay? This is your chance to ask a pro! Daina will also be a judge at this years cosplay contest!

2017 Festival Guest Announcement!

micahfbWe’re happy to announce that Micah Solusod will be a guest at the 2017 festival!

Despite his general inability to fly, Micah Solusod is a real voice actor and illustrator.

The rapscallion made his anime debut as Malek Werner in Blassreiter and is best known for his role as Soul Evans in Soul Eater. He has shown up in a number of other Funimation titles as Toma Kamijo in A Certain Magical Index, Yuichiro Hyakuya in Seraph of the End, Yukine in Noragami, Midnight in Fairy Tail, teen Coby in One Piece, Wisely in D.Gray-Man Hallow, Tagoma in Dragonball Z: Resurrection ‘F’, Mizuki in Kamisama Kiss, older Ame in Wolf Children, Gakushu Asano in Assassination Classroom, Black/King of Despair in Blood Blockade Battlefront, Su-Won in Yona of the Dawn, Bea in Space Dandy, Seido Takizawa in Tokyo Ghoul, and most recently, Nikolai Krasotkin in the Project Itoh film, The Empire of Corpses! It’s likely he’s done more but who’s counting?

Currently, he can be heard in Funimation’s SimulDubs as Kakeru Naruse in Orange, Yuri Plisetsky in Yuri!!! On ICE, Arata Kaizaki in ReLIFE, and Shun Kaidou in The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.

2017 Festival Guest Announcement!

apphiafbAnnouncing our next guest – Apphia Yu (Ayu)!  Ayu writes stuff, and then people read it. Usually in that order. As head of the visual novel group sakevisual, she’s written the award-winning Jisei murder mystery games, and the otome romance Backstage Pass. She also writes the comic Ties That Bind, which is full of fantasy, fighting, and great hair.

Outside of the writing world, Ayu provides voices for characters in anime and videogames. Her work includes Assassination Classroom (Rio Nakamura), Puzzle & Dragons X (Charo), Fairy Tail (Laki Olietta), Selector Infected WIXOSS (Yuzuki Kurebayashi), Shonen Maid (Chihiro Komiya), Robotics;Notes (Airi Yukifune), Noragami Aragoto (Young Ebisu), Barakamon (Tama), A Hat in Time (Hat Kid), and TOME: Terrain of Magical Expertise (Whyti). She also served as the voice director of Assassination Classroom Season 2 and The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.
